Crime Prevention This program of service allows us to heighten public awareness of crime prevention issues and recognize the service of our public safety employees.
Once a year, each major law enforcement agency in our area selects an outstanding officer, all of whom are recognized and honored in a special luncheon presentation. This is a very popular presentation that provides public safety agency leaders with an opportunity to introduces the ‘best of the best’, sharing their amazing stories of courage and dedication.
Fire Prevention As with the Crime Prevention goals described above, this program of service allows us to raise public awareness of fire prevention issues, fire safety education, and publicly available services.
Once a year, the Columbus Fire Department selects an outstanding Firefighter of the Year who is recognized and honored in a special luncheon presentation. The stories of bravery and unflinching risk that our firefighters undertake to save our lives and property never fail to fill us with appreciation for the amazing job they do.
Book of Golden Deeds This special program that recognizes special people. Once a year, we are privileged to select and honor someone of everyday life in our community. The honoree need not have great wealth, prestige, or high social standing. The honoree is one of those special people who works tirelessly all their life in all ways large and small, to make our community and our world a better place. The honoree usually works quietly, in the background, not expecting-- even avoiding-- any recognition or spotlight. Characterized by non-assuming altruism, our past honorees are often surprised and even uncomfortable to be so publicly honored at a special luncheon presentation.
Sunshine Special for Seniors In a joint effort working with the Columbus Fraternal Order of Police, this is a ‘Food Basket’ project held each year in early December. We work together purchasing, preparing, and delivering boxes of food to a number of area seniors in need.
Our local law enforcement agencies allow officers, with Exchange Club members riding along, to use their marked police vehicles to make the food deliveries throughout our community.
National Day of Service The National Exchange Club has designated the last Saturday of October of each year as a day of national service, an opportunity for local Exchange Clubs all over the nation to provide a one-time special community service project, unrelated to the ‘normal’ programs of service that we provide during the year..
In past years, for instance, our club has donated food to a local food bank, collected blankets for the Valley Rescue Mission, made a donation to the local Humane Society, and other similar projects.
